We left carols to sing
Hello!
Because we are in the beautiful season related to Christmas, I’m posting a Romanian carol (colind) which I translated into English. I guess it is not the first attempt of this kind, but I wanted to bring a small contribution to the Elders’ traditions… It is almost impossible to make an exact translation from Romanian to English, because there are many words that are non-translatable and many archaisms. And there is the rhyme and rhythm, too… Fortunately, this carol hasn’t so many archaisms, so I guess I haven’t been messing the meanings too much. ;D
Lord, glory to You!
Lord, glory to You!
Lord, glory to You!
Lord, glory to You!
We just left carols to sing
Lord, glory to You!
When the nobles are not home
Lord, glory to You!
When the nobles are not home
Lord, glory to You!
Lord, glory to You!
Lord, glory to You!
‘Cause they left all, without fear,
Lord, glory to You!
In the woods for hunting deer
Lord, glory to You!
In the woods for hunting deer
Lord, glory to You!
Lord, glory to You!
Lord, glory to You!
But a deer they couldn’t find,
Lord, glory to You!
So they hunted down a bunny
Lord, glory to You!
So they hunted down a bunny
Lord, glory to You!
Lord, glory to You!
Lord, glory to You!
They will cut his skin with sword
Lord, glory to You!
To make clothing for the Lord
Lord, glory to You!
To make clothing for the Lord
Lord, glory to You!
Lord, glory to You!
Lord, glory to You!
Lord, glory to You!
Lord, glory to You!
Lord, glory to You!
